Conseils locaux

  • Conseils d'initiés

    1. Plan around the evening. The seafront, the markets and the restaurants all come alive after dark and stay open late.

    2. If the choice is yours, come between November and March. Outside that window the outdoor country is closed.

  • Argent

    1. The currency is the Kuwaiti dinar, and cards work almost everywhere.

  • Coutumes et sécurité

    1. Modest dress in public (shoulders and knees covered), and more so away from the malls and the seafront.

    2. July here is hotter than in Riyadh or the Nile Valley; May to September, midday is no outdoor time.

  • Repas et prière

    1. Islam is the state religion and all food sold here is halal, so nobody has to look for it.

    2. Mosques are everywhere in Kuwait City, prayer rooms in malls and the airport; shops close briefly at each prayer.

Se déplacer à ⁨Koweït⁩

  • Voiture

The city is spread out and built for driving; there is no metro and the distances are longer than a map suggests.

    Recommandé

  • VTC

The usual alternative to driving, with the fare settled in the app.

  • Taxi

Plentiful, and worth agreeing the fare on before setting off.

À propos de ⁨Koweït⁩

Kuwait is one city on one bay, and the country behind it is flat desert to the borders. The old centre and the towers are on the water; the suburbs run inland; and there is very little that is not one or the other.

The summer here is the most extreme of anywhere in these guides, and it organises the whole year. The city lives outdoors from November and indoors from May.
